The greatest indication of your relationship with God is in how you treat others

As I watched a reel last night, this statement was made and it stopped my scrolling.

But let’s be honest. Who’s tongue speaks pain? Who’s actions bring hurt? Who’s manipulation causes confusion and conflict? Not Gods.

What would Jesus do is a phrase that gets thrown around sometimes as a joke during an awkward situation. But honestly, WHAT WOULD JESUS DO?

He surly wouldn’t have scolded you for your poor decisions. He wouldn’t have thrown a punch because you said something hateful. And he wouldn’t have run away from you when times got tough. He wouldn’t have indulged in the newest gossip, or judged someone based on their appearance simply because it wasn’t his preference.

He would have given grace to those who have done wrong and offered solutions to the problems they’re experiencing. He’d be a listening ear to those who needed someone to confide in, but that information would have remained private. And regardless of your attire, your likes and your preferences, he’d welcome you with open arms.

It’s so easy to get caught up in what we think is expected of us in order to gain our places in heaven, but the truth is, God wants nothing more from us than our ability to be kind. To process our words before we speak so that they don’t become weapons. To offer our wisdom to those who could benefit from it. To be a TRUE friend, not one that plays sides for personal gain. To help those who need it without expecting anything in return.

A hardened heart is not one of God’s.

So the next time you’re faced with a situation that is tough, or can cause anger, be mindful in your response. Walk away, if you have to. Take a breath. Choose kindness. Pray on it. And don’t be afraid to ask yourself, what Jesus would do. Because your good deeds won’t earn you your place in heaven. Your heart will.
